William Afton, often referred to as the "Purple Guy" or "Springtrap," is the primary antagonist of the Five Nights at Freddy's video game series. He is a serial killer responsible for the deaths of numerous children throughout the franchise's lore.
Afton's motivations are initially ambiguous, with theories ranging from a desire for control to a simple sadistic nature. He co-founded Fazbear Entertainment with Henry Emily, overseeing the construction and operation of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza and its various animatronic characters.
Afton's modus operandi involves luring children to secluded areas before murdering them. He often uses the springlock suits, particularly Spring Bonnie, to gain their trust. The souls of his victims become trapped within the animatronics, fueling the series' paranormal events.
